Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff Is Actually Worth the Read

Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff, Sean Penn’s debut novel and published by “Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff,” Sean Penn’s debut novel and published by Atria Books (2018). “Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff” took the world by surprise in many ways and most especially coming from the pen of Sean Penn. Sean Penn is known more for his acting skills than his skills in the literary world. Sean Penn has been the recipient of the Oscar twice; first for Mystic River (2003) again for Milk (2008).

In a recent interview for his novel “Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff,” Sean Penn gives a reasoned argument for his character Bob Honey by explaining the concept of mandatory service to one’s country. While Bob Honey is not a person trained or devoted to compulsory service still feels called to service he turns to the darkest deeds of lunacy to rationalize his service to others. Sean Penn again says that he sought to create a person who would be living this irrational lifestyle as a form of dark humor. The dark humor comes much from the present state of affairs in the United States, where lunacy has run rampant and reported widely in recent years with gun violence and gang shootings, etc.

Sean Penn was recently asked to comment on celebrities who attribute to his style and penmanship. Penn is not concerned with how others perceive him as an author so much as allowing the character of Bob Honey to represent himself. It is hard to separate the fiction from the non-fiction, the real from the unreal when a person is searching for meaning not intended by the author.

Sean Penn does admit that the character of Bob Honey in “Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff” is set in a modern sub-dystopian world, where chaotic activity is blurred by the harsh realities of one person seeking to make sense of this chaos that surrounds them.

Penn holds to this view of his task as an author and that it is not to define characters but to accept what the muse of storytelling gives to him to work with and go forward with this, neither reaching a complete understanding nor trying to fit specific meaning to the inspiration that is given. Ultimately the author has to pur the words on the page and allow the characters to express themselves thru the story and in this case, it was thru “Bob Honey WHo Just Do Stuff.”
